Local LAFD Station 101 on 25th Street has sand bags for residents but no sand. However, Fire Station 112, located at 444 S. Harbor Blvd., Berth 86, says they have both bags and sand. Their number is 310-548-7542. While the City can provide homeowners with empty sandbags and sand to protect their property, the City does not fill, load, or place sandbags for individual homeowners. Here is the LAFD website for sandbags and related info:

L.A. City’s Bureau of Street Services offers free sand and sandbags during the storm season. Local residents may pick up sand and sandbags at the Bureau of Street Services at the location below. Please note that residents must fill the sandbags themselves. Shovels will be available at the yard. The maximum number of bags per residence is 25 bags at the yards.

City Controller to Discuss Emergency Response Plan
Los Angeles City Controller, Laura Chick, will be meeting with harbor area residents next week to discuss the status of the Controller’s Office, including reports from Audits of City Departments over the past year.
It is anticipated that an issue of major discussion will include the deficiencies discovered in Chick’s audit of LA’s Emergency Response Plan. Because the harbor area faces greatly increased risks due to the presence of the Port of LA, and numerous privately operated chemical storage facilities and refineries, this issue demands great attention. The recent prediction by the USGS of a 7.1—7.9 earthquake in the Los Angeles vicinity within the next several years intensifies the need for emergency preparedness. Large areas of San Pedro and Wilmington (including port terminals) have been identified as liquefaction areas and are sitting directly on top of the Palos Verdes Fault line. This is a critical issue for local residents.
